Welcome to LAYC’s Health Website!
LAYC works in partnership with NHS Lothian to provide Youth Tobacco Action support to youth projects in Edinburgh, East, Mid and West Lothian. In 2012, for the first time, LAYC was able to offer small grants to youth groups to develop smoking prevention projects. Since 2012 the Youth Tobacco support has grown at LAYC and the project now has two strands:
SMALL GRANTS SCHEME
Youth groups can apply for up to £750 to turn their project ideas into action – anything which would reduce the harm caused by tobacco or stop young people from starting to smoke. If you need some inspiration for a project or want to read about examples of what has been funded in the past then check out our Successful Projects link. For more information on the application process click here All kinds of projects are considered – sport, music, film, peer education, dance, art, photography…the list can go on – just as long as there is a strong smoking prevention message and involves young people between 11-24 years. And it does not have to be a new project – existing good examples of work will also be considered for funding.
ADVICE, SUPPORT & TRAINING
Here at LAYC we know Youth Workers can have many issues to address within their organisation and some will be more important than others and at different times! If smoking or tobacco is one of these many issues that has arisen or you would like to do more about, LAYC’s Youth Tobacco project can provide advice, support or training in a way that suits your organisation, group or staff team…
- Interactive workshops raising the issue of smoking
- Ideas for running smoking related workshops with young people
- Developing or updating a smoking prevention policy to assist staff
- Staff team discussions around the issue of young people and smoking
- Input for peer education programmes focussing on smoking
Again this list can go on, so please get in touch with LAYC’s Youth Tobacco Development Worker using the Contact Us link to discuss any ideas or specific requests further.
